Profile

Reverend Canon Associate Professor Doctor Grace Lubaale is an accomplished education and development expert, mentor, leader, researcher, consultant, and advocate with over two decades of distinguished service in higher education, theology, and community development.

He currently serves in the Department of Development Studies, Kyambogo University, where he has demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and academic leadership. His professional journey reflects a unique blend of scholarship and ministry, grounded in human rights advocacy, educational transformation, and community empowerment.

Dr. Lubaale’s academic career spans more than twenty-four years at Kyambogo University, where he rose through the ranks from Tutorial Fellow (2001) to Associate Professor (2024). He has previously served as Head of Teacher Education and Development Studies (2013–2021) and continues to contribute significantly to institutional development, curriculum design, and postgraduate supervision.

As a theologian and ordained priest in the Church of Uganda, he combines intellectual and spiritual leadership. He was installed as Canon of Education and Training at All Saints Cathedral Kampala (2024) and currently serves as Chairperson of the Diocesan Board of Education (2025–2028) and Synod Member of the Diocese of Kampala. His sixteen years of active pastoral ministry have made him a valued contributor to faith-based education and moral leadership.

Beyond his academic and clerical roles, Dr. Lubaale is a Member of the Kyambogo University Council (2020–2028), serving on key committees such as Finance and Planning, Estates and Works, and Establishment and Administration. He has also served as Chairperson of the Forum for Academic Staff of Public Universities in Uganda (FASPU) and of the Kyambogo University Academic Staff Association (KYUASA).

His professional affiliations and service extend to national and international platforms, including membership on the Mulago National Referral Hospital Research and Ethics Committee, the Uganda Heart Institute Research and Ethics Committee, and the European Association for Practitioner Research on Improving Learning (EAPRIL).

Dr. Lubaale holds a Ph.D. in Development Studies (Uganda Martyrs University), a Master of Arts in Theology (Uganda Christian University), a Master of Arts in Development Studies (Uganda Martyrs University), and a Bachelor of Arts with Education (Makerere University). His areas of expertise include education and development, human rights advocacy, gender and inclusion, theology, and ecological justice.

Through his career, Dr. Lubaale has inspired thousands of students, mentored emerging scholars, and contributed to Uganda’s education reform and development discourse. He continues to be recognized for his outstanding leadership, service, and scholarship both within Kyambogo University and in the broader national context.
