Department Research

The department is organized around subfields of Political Science that broadly reflect conceptual and theoretical concerns of global and national focus. The interest of the department primarily runs from Public Administration, Public Policy and Governance, democratization and democratic political systems, peace and security, resources governance, political theory, international relations a field which concentrates on the study of all manner of global and regional political contradictions, comprising armed conflict and diplomacy in its various manifestations; the politics of international trade and the environment; the threat of terrorism; the design and functioning of international institutions and international law. The departments’ major research projects have been sponsored by a number of sponsors and partners ranging from governmental, professional, academic as well as the home university. The leading sponsors for our research in recent years have entailed EMCO, Center on Conflict and Development, Texas A&M, University, USA, University of Texas at Austin with support from Carnegie Foundation of New York which has sponsored research on Higher Education in Africa and the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), a Pan-African research organization. With a focus on the advancement of innovations in the framework of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), other research partners have been the Government of Uganda, Working Group in African Political Economy (WGAPE), Center for Global Action, University of California, Danish Institute Against Torture (DIGNITY), Denmark; the Center for Conflict and Development (ConDev), USA and Kyambogo University.  Our research on indigenous youth employment and entrepreneurship focusing on the Batwa, and Basongora is currently underway.
