Message from the Head of Department

Welcome to the Department of Development Studies, one of the Teaching and Research Departments in Faculty of Social Sciences at Kyambogo University. The Department was created in 2018; in effect, the programme has grown in length and bounds over years to meet the market demands. On average, it attracts a total of 400 students every academic year on both day and evening Programmes.

Agrofose2030

Translating science into Policy and Practice 2022-2023

Kyambogo University is implementing the project Translating Science into Policy and Practice, a collaborative initiative between AgriFose2030 Programme at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and University of Gothenburg (Sweden) and Kyambogo University (Uganda) aimed at supporting young scientists to translate research findings into evidence-based policy and practice.

About the Project: Under the programme of AgriFose2030, Kyambogo University in collaboration with Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden is implementing the mentioned project in Western Uganda.

Natural Resources Management- Summer School

The Department runs a summer school- Naturel Resource Management. The course focuses on the linkages between development and Natural Resources, Principles of Managing Natural Resources, and the sustainable conservation of these resources The course advert for 2022 cohort is out.

Various professional opportunities arise in development studies such as UN, intergovernmental organizations, NGO’s, journalistic Jobs, private sector consultancy firms. A career in development studies will help you in being involved in your own country’s development and attend to various demands of it.

Josephine Bamanya

Josephine has a master’s degree in Rural Planning and Development from the University of Guelph, Canada and bachelor’s in development studies from Kyambogo University, Uganda (2008-2011 class).
