Translating Science into Policy and Practice

We strive to provide highest quality education, bridging your child's success with well formed infrastructure of knowledge and resources.

About the project

The overarching goal with the partnership is to provide AgriFoSe2030 project partners and selected staff and senior researchers at Kyambogo University with knowledge in policy translation processes

The course will be developed and run by a team at Gottenburg University and Co-hosted by Kyambogo University.

Kyambogo University is implementing the project Translating Science into Policy and Practice, a collaborative initiative between AgriFose2030 Programme at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and University of Gothenburg (Sweden) and Kyambogo University (Uganda) aimed at supporting young scientists to translate research findings into evidence-based policy and practice.

The overarching goal with the partnership is to provide AgriFoSe2030 project partners and selected staff and senior researchers at Kyambogo University with knowledge in policy translation processes. The objective of the course is to strengthen individual skills and capacities, and national and regional networks, for enhanced policy engagement.

Public lecture on translating science into policy and Practice

Cohort 1

Addressing the uptake of research findings into policymaking is increasingly becoming important for researchers who ultimately seek to contribute to improved health outcomes, development and industrialisation of the economy.

While universities engage in impactful research, the major challenge has been how to translate research findings into policy and practice. To this end, researchers and politicians on September 27, 2022 gathered at Kyambogo University for a public lecture to discuss how to best translate science into policy and practice. The public lecture, which used a hybrid attendance format was hosted by the Vice Chancellor of Kyambogo University Prof. Eli Katunguka.

The course will contribute to the following course learning outcomes:

  1. Presenting scientific results and tentative policy recommendations to a given target group.
  2. Understand and describe their roles in policy-making processes.
  3. Present an overview of the policy landscape relevant to their research, possible research-policy linkages, and different models for policy engagement, including the use of social media – all with a focus on their own research field.
  4. Perform a stakeholder mapping and analysis.
  5. Formulate and present a research-to-policy plan and/or a policy brief/press release and posters.

The course will cover three online modules of study material on the Canvas learning platform, which will be available throughout the course so that the participants can take part in it when suitable for themselves within the time frame of each module.
