Background
The Department of Sociology and Social Administration is currently offering training in Social Work and Social Administration through the Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration (BSWSA). The theoretical component looks at relevant theories and perspectives about human needs and problems in the country, and the social work intervention strategies and social programmes that are designed to respond to such problems together with critiques of these programmes and theories.
The practical component consists of carefully supervised fieldwork placements in social agencies. These placements serve as contexts for students to integrate theory and practice as part of their learning experiences. As it is in the framework of the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) and the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) standard, the fieldwork practicum will constitute 30% of the training time. Because of this requirement, the students of Social Work and Social Administration are required to do practicum once in their program duration i.e. in the 2nd Semester of Year III. The BSWSA Programme is governed by the general regulations of Kyambogo University and those of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. It is also governed by special regulations, which reflect special requirements of professional social work education.
