The department of Political Science and Public Administration is proud of its present academic mandate and seeks to expand it by offering advanced training and research at PhD level. Pursued as an academic programme by research, it also seeks to significantly contribute to the realization of Kyambogo University’s vision and mission. With a three-year duration, the Ph.D. as a distinguished doctoral program by research offers a rich set of governance themes for the contemporary world that balances broad policy and managerial concerns as well as the focus on the determinants innovation in the broader public sector. The Ph.D. program further offers rigorous methodological rigour in several strategic governance sub themes and cross cutting courses, which empowers students to undertake scholarly research with practical applications for policy and practice in the fields of their choice. The vital attributes of the Ph.D. program comprise robust and productive scholarly engagements with public and professional researchers at the heart of Kampala, extensive ICT and library services as well as friendly faculty and students. The launching of this programme positioned the department to deepen its training role in the region, thus helping to make greater involvement in achieving the university’s Vision and Mission. Similarly, in this way, the Ph.D. programme, in a unique way, effectively contribute to the broader Social Development Goals at the global level, the country’s National Development Plan and the University’s strategic plan.
