Master of Arts in Security and Diplomatic Studies

The current development challenges facing the African continent such as poverty, deprivation and political upheaval necessitate a clear understanding of their causes, consequences and how they can be resolved. The Master of Arts programme in security and diplomatic studies is designed to equip students with the required skills on how best they can deal with the above challenges and their resultant consequences. Significantly, most security challenges are inextricably linked with issues pertaining to development or lack of development both in terms of causality and solutions. It is no coincidence that the vast security challenges, especially those that threaten the existence of the state have been occurring in regions where poverty and deprivation are part of everyday life. The programme covers the different forms of conflict-related, development-induced and disaster-induced-insecurity as well as the different types of conflicts. Furthermore, security and diplomacy are some of the fastest-growing areas of interest in the academic, corporate and public domains.
